Update and Reuse SEOpen firefox extension on Firefox 3

   The last updated version SEOpen that available for download is version 0.8 released on 29 October 2006.  I'm a fan of the SEOpen tools that provide very useful yet simple SEO tools to use.  But now I used new Firefox browser version 3.x.x and the SEOpen extension tools that is provided on the official site not working any more.  I hope that they will release new version SEOpen extension that can work on Firefox 3 soon...

   But for now, there is some tweaking that we can do to make or reuse old Firefox extension to use on Firefox version 3.  Below is the step by step procedure that I make in order to reuse or use the SEOpen extension.

1.  Download the SEOpen 0.8 for Firefox 1.5 to 2.0 (right click to Save Link As) from the SEOpen official site and please visit the site to find the updated SEOpen extension for Firefox 3.

2.  Rename the seopen08.xpi to seopen08.xpi.zip... only add the .zip (dotzip) to the end of xpi extension .

3.  Using the 7zip compression tool... extract open the compress seopen08.xpi.zip file to seopen08.xpi folder by choosing the [Extract to "seopen08.xpi\"] on 7zip menu.

4.  Go inside the seopen08.xpi folder and find the install.rdf configuration file.  Open the install.rdf file with the the wordpad or notepad.

5.  Find the line that say "<em:maxVersion>2.0.0.*</em:maxVersion>" inside the install.rdf configuration file.

6.  Edit and change the maximum version to compatible for Firefox up to version 4 as example below:

8.  Save and close the install.rdf file.

9.  Make sure that you still inside the folder... Select the chrome folder, chrome.manifest file and install.rdf configuration file (see figure below).

10.  Compress the chrome folder, chrome.manifest file and install.rdf configuration file to zip file by selecting the Add to "seopen08.xpi.zip" as shown on figure below:

11.  Rename the seopen08.xpi.zip file to seopen08.xpi ... --> to ... you done...

12.  You can skip all the step above by download seopen.xpi edited version of seopen08.xpi that made using step above.... but no warranty at all that the extension working and perform the job as it should be.

13.  Now... Install the Firefox extension.
